We have compiled a buying guide to explain all the different suspension packages available for your car. Hopefully by reading this introduction to performance suspension any technical questions you may have will be answered.
We offer suspension kits to suit every budget and all the manufacturers are handpicked for product quality and function. We do not sell inferior cheap brands.
Why upgrade to a sport suspension kit?
Most people purchase a sport suspension kit with one main aim in mind...to lower the car and improve the cars looks and drivability...but what are the benefits?
Lowering your car reduces the centre of gravity, resulting in a better handling and better looking car! Lowering kits are much stiffer than factory suspension and help to reduce body roll and keep the car more stable under heavy braking and fast cornering.
There are many benefits to lowering a car and it is the second most popular modification carried out by car enthusiasts (the first, if you are wondering is replacing the factory wheels with alloys!)
We sell a vast range of lowering sport suspension kits for a massive range of vehicles. There are literally hundreds of kits available. We have a lowering kit to suit everybody’s budget!
All suspension manufacturers list various kits designed to lower and improve road holding. Most lowering kits can be broken down into the following categories:
Lowering Springs
This is the cheapest and most cost effective way of lowering your car! All spring kits are supplied in a box of 4 unless otherwise stated. The springs can be fitted with standard or up-rated dampers.
If you decide to fit the springs with standard factory dampers please ensure the shocks are in good condition and refrain from going any lower than 40mm. Any drop greater than 40mm may damage the standard dampers. Performance dampers run a shorter piston rod allowing you to lower the car further.
Lowering springs will increase the ride stiffness usually by approx 30% reducing body roll and increasing handling. Prices from £50.00
Sport Suspension Kits
Sport suspension kits replace the factory dampers and springs. Replacement sport suspension kits are the most popular way of lowering your car. Kits come complete with up-rated dampers running shorter piston rods and up-rated lowering springs. The springs and shocks are ‘matched’ resulting in a much more refined and balanced suspension package. There are numerous drops to choose from 20mm-80mm are available.
There are basically two types of sport suspension kits available, these are:
A. Sport Kits
The kit will include 4 lowering springs combined with 4 matched 30% up-rated shock absorbers with short piston rods. Prices from £160.00
B. Adjustable Sport Kits
The kit will include 4 lowering springs with 4 matched adjustable damping rate shock absorbers. There are numerous drops available and ride stiffness can easily be altered to offer a hard or soft ride. You decide! Prices from £299.00
Sports Dampers (or Shocks)
Sports dampers are a direct replacement to a factory damper. Performance dampers are designed to be fitted with shorter lowering springs. The units are up-rated and run short piston rods, ideal for lowered cars. There are basically two styles available:
A. Fixed Rate Dampers
Usually up-rated by approx 25-30% they run a shorter piston rod ideal for lowered cars and designed to stiffen the ride quality increasing road holding and stability. Prices from £30.00 each.
B. Adjustable Dampers
These sport dampers run short piston rods ideal for lowered cars but also come with the added benefit of being damping adjustable. Hard or soft...you decide! Each unit comes with numerous damper settings so you can fine tune your suspension rigidity. Ideal for enthusiasts who enjoy road rallying or track days! Prices from £45.00 each.
Coilover Suspension
A true enthusiast’s kit, for the driver who demands the very best in suspension technology. Coilover suspension kits allow you to adjust the ride height setting of your car. All kits run short thicker piston rods and will usually lower the vehicle from 30mm-120mm. The adjustable spring plate allows you to run the car at any desired ride height. Kits are available with fixed rate damping or the more expensive kits allow you to adjust the damping rate, fine tuning to different driving conditions. Prices on coilover suspension have come down over the last few years and kits start at just over £290.00.
We hope the above brief description helps you find the kit that suits your requirements and your pocket. You can trust all our prices are competitive and most kits are available from stock!
