We have compiled a buying guide to explain all the different styles of performance exhausts, from a replacement rear box to a full replacement system and manifold. Hopefully by reading our guide any technical questions you may have will be answered.
We offer numerous exhausts from a wide range of quality suppliers. There are two basic types of steel used for exhausts - mild steel or lifetime guarantee stainless steel.
Mild Steel Exhausts
As the title suggests these performance exhausts are made from mild steel and offer the same performance increases of a stainless steel system at a fraction of the cost. The only downside to a mild steel system is over a number of years the exhaust will be prone to corrosion.
Stainless Steel Exhausts
As the title suggests these performance exhausts are made from stainless steel and are given a lifetime warranty. The exhausts will never corrode. Stainless steel exhausts are usually more expensive than mild steel exhausts but give exactly the same power increase.
All performance exhaust systems and rear boxes are road legal and comply with all EEC noise regulations!
Why upgrade to a performance exhaust?
Most people want to upgrade to a performance exhaust for one of 3 reasons:
Improve the look of the car, increase power or to make their car sound more aggressive under heavy acceleration.
All the exhausts we sell offer increased power and performance and there are numerous different tailpipe options available so you can decide which style suits your car best.
We have handpicked only the very best exhaust manufacturers to bring you the most comprehensive range of exhausts available for all makes and model of performance cars.
Will a performance exhaust give me more power?
All performance exhaust systems we sell will improve your cars performance. By replacing the restrictive factory fit mild steel exhaust with a performance system you will probably gain approx 10% power increase, changing the rear box only will give a moderate increase in power approx 5%.
Which exhaust should I choose?
All manufacturers exhaust systems and rear boxes will give approximately the same increases in power. Please don’t let so many manufactures confuse you. The only real decision you have to make is if you want mild or stainless steel, which tailpipe you prefer and how much you want to spend. All rear boxes and systems are direct replacements to the original and can be fitted easily in a moderate time scale
There are 5 different exhaust categories
Performance Rear Box or Back Box
Purchasing a performance rear box for your car is the cheapest way of changing the looks and sound of your vehicle. The rear box is a direct replacement to the original box and approximate fitting time would be around 10-15mins. Power gains will only be moderate but you can expect around a 5% increase. The exhaust note will change slightly to a deeper sounding tone. Expect to pay between £80.00 - £180.00 depending on the car and manufacturer chosen.
Performance Exhaust System
This is the most popular style of exhaust we sell. Performance exhausts are usually a bigger bore than a standard factory system, the silencer boxes are less restrictive and therefore you can expect a good power gain of approx 10%. The system replaces the factory fitted exhaust using the same mounting points and is a direct replacement.
Systems usually comprise of 3 pieces and fit up to the factory CAT or factory downpipe replacing ¾ of the full exhaust. You will notice increased power and torque and also a distinct change in exhaust note. There are numerous tailpipe options available and most systems come complete with a free fitting kit usually taking between 15-30 minutes to fit. Expect to pay between £180.00- £ 400.00 depending on the car and manufacturer chosen.
Performance Manifolds
By replacing the factory exhaust manifold with an aftermarket replacement you can expect good gains in torque and power. Performance manifolds are available in mild and stainless steel from numerous manufacturers. The manifold bolts to the engine block and connects to the CAT or downpipe, ideally fitted with a performance exhaust system. Prices vary from £250.00 - £450.00 depending on the car and manufacturer chosen.
Catalytic Converter Replacement Pipes (CAT Bypass)
We offer a massive range of CAT replacement pipes mainly sourced from an Italian company called Supersprint. By replacing the factory catalytic converter you will free up approx 5-10% power. The car will rev a lot easier and benefit from an increased throttle response. All CAT bypass pipes come with a hole for the lamba probe and most can be bolted on or off. Be careful as some cars registered after 1992 need a cat to pass the MOT. If you remove the CAT you do run the risk of the car not passing the MOT because of increased emissions. The car will also become slightly louder as you have in theory removed a silencer box. Prices vary from £55.00 - 120.00 depending on your vehicle.
Sports Catalytic Converter
We now carry a massive range of performance sports CATs. The factory fitted CAT is designed to remove harmful gases from the cars exhaust before they are expelled into the atmosphere. Sports cats do the same job as a factory CAT but do not have the power sapping restriction that a factory CAT has. By fitting a sport cat you will gain approx 5-10% more power but will not affect your cars emission’s which is ideal with MOT and pollution laws getting tighter. Prices vary from £100.00 - £250.00 depending on your vehicle.
